Well-translated materials allow businesses to reach new markets both locally and abroad. While a quality translation can enhance a business’ image and reputation, a poor translation can damage it. Perhaps most importantly, flawless communication reduces liability and prevents costly errors.
Being able to speak two languages fluently does not necessarily mean that a person will be able to produce a high quality translation. Translators must also have strong reading skills in the foreign language and excellent writing skills in the target language. In addition, professional translators work only into their native languages to ensure that texts read naturally and are grammatically correct.
If you are looking for an English-to-French translator, I would be happy to refer you to a qualified colleague.
Translators should be comfortable with the texts they are translating. If a translator has subject matter expertise, they are in a position to accurately translate texts that require knowledge of basic concepts and specific terminology.
The time it takes to complete a project largely depends on the number of words to be translated. For general texts, we are able to translate approximately 2,000 words per day. Editing projects usually require one hour per 1,000 words.
Two other factors must also be considered, including:
Level of difficulty
Turnaround times are longer for specialized texts as research is sometimes necessary. Texts that must be adapted to a target audience, such as marketing content, also require more time in order to find the most culturally appropriate translation.
Editable documents, such as those in MS Word or HTML format, speed up the translation process. Non-editable documents, such as PDFs and scanned copies, require more time to translate since the translation must be manually formatted.
Given that every translation project is unique, rates vary accordingly. Please contact me for a free, non-binding quote on your project.
